I&#8217;m also a reading teacher).\u00a0 There are moments of great satisfaction when you know what you&#8217;ve been doing is helping a child become a better reader.\u00a0 There are equal (and sometimes more frequent) moments of great frustration and anxiety when you&#8217;ve tried every tool in your box of strategies, and it just still doesn&#8217;t seem to be making enough of an impact for the child.\u00a0 This week I&#8217;ve been in the deep dark dungeon of frustration&#8230;but I am seeing some cracks of light shining through.\u00a0 There were no breakthroughs for any students today, but I feel I may have come upon something that will help me, help students become better readers.\u00a0 And that brings hope and light.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" title=\"webDSC_0125edited\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tracishupertphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/webDSC_0125edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"598\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What am I recommending to read this week?\u00a0 Your child&#8217;s writing.\u00a0 I would be remiss if I did not talk about writing because it is just as vital as reading.\u00a0 I use the word vital in it&#8217;s fullest sense of meaning.\u00a0 Just as a doctor would call a patient&#8217;s status vital if they were flatlining, I believe the same meaning applies to a child&#8217;s ability to read and write.\u00a0 It is vital &#8211; life or death.\u00a0 Their futures are hanging in the balance.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" title=\"webDSC_0118edited\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tracishupertphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/webDSC_0118edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"598\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I having always enjoyed being crafty (or artsy fartsy as I like to refer to it), and I&#8217;ve had fun encouraging craftiness in my niece.\u00a0 I stopped by her home the other day, and she was crafting away at her little pink table.\u00a0 Making books, coloring, writing words rainbow style, and letting her creative juices flow.\u00a0 I came across a little piece of writing that she had cut out with her decorative scissors.\u00a0 She&#8217;s in kindergarten and has been hard at work learning sight words.\u00a0 This is what she wrote (typed just like her 5 year old hands wrote it):<\/p>\n<p><em>I like to Play<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>With My MoM and My<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>NaNa.<\/em><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter\" title=\"webDSC_0096edited\" src=\"http:\/\/www.tracishupertphotography.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/webDSC_0096edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"598\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A perfect glimpse into a young soul&#8217;s heart because that is precisely what she loves to do.\u00a0 Now, I just have to go and teach her how to spell <em>Traci<\/em> so she can include me in her writing.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>We become experts at what we devote our time to.\u00a0 What do we want our children to become experts at?<\/p>\n<p><em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"pp-post-sig\">\n<div><a href=\"javascript:void((function(){var%20e=document.createElement('script');e.setAttribute('type','text\/javascript');e.setAttribute('charset','UTF-8');e.setAttribute('src','http:\/\/assets.pinterest.com\/js\/pinmarklet.js?r='+Math.random()*99999999);document.body.appendChild(e)})());\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.clickinmoms.com\/cmprodaily\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/pinit.jpg\" alt=\"Pin It\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"pp-fb-like-btn-wrap\"><div class=\"fb-like\" data-href=\"https:\/\/www.tracishupertphotography.com\/blog\/dont-forget-about-the-writing-what-to-read-traci-shupert-photography\/\" data-share=\"true\" data-layout=\"standard\" data-width=\"450\" data-show-faces=\"\" data-action=\"like\"><\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Working with struggling readers has been more of a roller coaster of emotions than I think I&#8217;ve ever expected.\u00a0 (Just in case you don&#8217;t know &#8211;
